The Effects Of Free Fatty Acids On Gluconeogenesis And Glycogenolysis In Normal Subjects

Effect None
Trial Design Non-controlled trial
Trial Length 24 hours
Number of Subjects 12
Sex Both Genders
Age Range 30-44
Body Types Overweight
Notes for this study:
Supplementation of niacin (100mg every 30 minutes) during a fasted state of at least 20 hours appears to cause acute increases in plasma free fatty acids and ketone bodies, with mild reductions in blood glucose and no influence on gluconeogenesis.

Insulin initially had a mild reduction, but rebounded after a full days fast. This was parallel to lipolysis rates, which initially were reduced then rebounded.
