In healthy and overweight (BMI 25-35) Japanese volunteers, 3.4 and 6.8g CLA (50/50 isomer blend) was paired against safflower oil for 12 weeks found no significant adverse effects for the persons who were healthy at baseline, and some slight abnormalities with liver enzymes (ALT and AST) at the higher dose of CLA (6.8g) at the end of the 12 weeks in person with less healthy baseline statistics.

Doses of 3.4g daily deemed safe.
