Curcumin Protects DNA Damage In A Chronically Arsenic-exposed Population Of West Bengal
Effect | None |
Trial Design | Double blind |
Trial Length | 6+ Months |
Number of Subjects | 286 |
Sex | Both Genders |
Oral ingestion of 500mg (20:1 curcumin:piperine combination) twice a day for 6 months was able to preserve a fair bit of DNA integrity and protect the body from further Arsenic-induced DNA damage in rural areas of india with high arsenic exposure via drinking water.
The body's anti-oxidant system also somewhat normalized.
No significant effect on protein carbonylation processes from curcumin, both glutathione enzymes (reductase and peroxidase) were induced, with SOD induced during months 5-6 only.
