Notes for this study:
2 separate trials were performed; the first in 19 young (15-16) jumping athletes and in 71 national level adult athletes. Each tablet had 91.1mg Schizandra at 3.1mg combined Schizandrin and y-Schizandrin, and the adults took 4 a day (two daily doses of 2 tablets).

Schizandra was able to increase ciruclating levels of Nitric Oxide as assessed by salivary measurement in atheltes when taken before exercise, but was not cumulative with increases in NO due to exercise. This was hypothesized to be biological pre-conditioning by the authors.

Cortisol was increased in beginner athletes pre-loading with Schizandra but was decreased in experienced national level athletes; the beginner group experienced less of a cortisol spike after exercise, however.
