Enhanced Thermogenic Responsiveness During Chronic Ephedrine Treatment In Man
Effect | Increase |
Trial Design | Non-controlled trial |
Trial Length | 1-6 months |
Number of Subjects | 5 |
Sex | Female |
Age Range | 18-29, 30-44, 45-64 |
Body Types | Overweight |
As assessed by oxygen consumption, metabolic rate was significantly increased in 5 overweight females (Body fat % around 30-33, one at 38). Ephedrine boluses were given as tests (1mg/kg bodyweight) but a standard 20mg three times a day treatment was given chronically.
Average weight loss was 2.5kg after 4 weeks and 5.5kg after 12 weeks, losing 3.5-5.3% of their body fat (range of averages).
Blood pressure increased 1 hour (23mmHg after bolus, 5mmHg during treatment) after consumption of ephedrine, but declined to baseline.
