Studies related to Peptide YY (PYY) and Cannabis

A Pilot Study Of The Effects Of Cannabis On Appetite Hormones In HIV-infected Adult Men

Effect Decrease
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length 1-7 Days
Number of Subjects 7
Sex Male
Age Range 45-64
Notes for this study:
Administration of cannabis (2% THC by weight, titrated to the personal dose maximizing pain relief and minimizing side-effects) in a blinded manner, relative to placebo, was able to increase circulating leptin (67.1%) and ghrelin (42.4%) in HIV infected men alongside a reduction in serum peptide YY (-14.2%) over the course of a week.

Ghrelin appeared to follow a dose-dependent response whereas leptin was associated with lower peaks when THC elevation in serum was increased.
