Chewing gum containing 1-2mg of nicotine acutely in otherwise healthy men is able to increase metabolic rate as assessed via indirect calorimetry by 3.7-4.9% (AUC values over the course of 180 minutes) relative to placebo gum. Fat oxidation rates were not significantly influenced.
