Studies related to Growth Hormone and Arginine

Growth Hormone Responses To Varying Doses Of Oral Arginine

Effect Increase
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length 24 hours
Number of Subjects 8
Gender Male
Age Range 18-29, 30-44
Body Types Average
Notes for this study:
5 or 9g of Arginine taken in a fasted state in otherwise healthy males was able to increase peak growth hormone concentrations

A Study Of Growth Hormone Release In Man After Oral Administration Of Amino Acids

Effect None
Trial Design Cohort
Trial Length 24 hours
Number of Subjects 15
Gender Male
Age Range 18-29
Body Types Average
Notes for this study:
Although this study established efficacy of a lysine and arginine combination formula for increasing growth hormone concentrations, using arginine at 1200mg in isolation failed to influence any measured parameter.

Influence Of Chronic Supplementation Of Arginine Aspartate In Endurance Athletes On Performance And Substrate Metabolism - A Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Study

Effect None
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length 2-4 Weeks
Number of Subjects 30
Gender Male
Age Range 18-29, 30-44
Body Types Trained, Average
Notes for this study:
4 weeks supplementation of L-arginine L-asparate (2.8-4.7g arginine) has failed to modify physical performance or any measured endocrine parameter in otherwise trained athletes.

Oral Arginine Does Not Stimulate Basal Or Augment Exercise-induced GH Secretion In Either Young Or Old Adults

Effect Decrease
Trial Design Double blind
Trial Length 24 hours
Number of Subjects 28
Gender Both Genders
Age Range 13-17, 65+
Body Types Average
Notes for this study:
In young adults and elderly adults given 5g L-Arginine prior to weight lifting exercises, there was no improvement of growth hormone concentrations from exercise (in fact, a blunting of GH was almost significant in the youth). Without exercise, overall AUC of growth hormone was unaffected.
