Whole Beetroot Consumption Acutely Improves Running Performance

The final stretch of a 5 kilometer time trial was significantly faster in persons who preloaded with beetroot juice (500mg or more of nitrate) relative to placebo, although other times merely noted a trend for improvement. Overall, the time trial was 41 seconds shorter with beetroot. RPE was lower only in the final segment.
