In a double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial, 46 peri-menopausal women were allocated to take 2.5 mg of boron from sodium borate for 60 days and placebo for 90 days. There was a small increase in white blood cell count, a small decrease in lymphocyte %, and an increase in polymorphonuclear leukocytes. Serum, T4, TSH, and follicle-stimulating hormone didn't see statistically significant differences, while alkaline phosphatase but 17b-estradiol saw a significant increase when boron was taken first, alkaline phosphate saw a small increase when boron was taken second, and T3 saw a reduction when boron was taken 2nd.
