Consumption of 4-8 cups of coffee daily is associated with a 6% higher adiponectin levels and less markers of inflammation. Study population was persons below the age of 65 who did not have diabetes but were at risk for it.

Total cholesterol increased, which was mostly due to increases in HDL. The HDL:LDL ratio decreased, suggesting cardioprotection.

No influence on insulin sensitivity after oral glucose tolerance test.

All beneficial effects were more potent in obese individuals.
