In this randomized, double-blind, crossover trial, 12 recreationally active participants took 6 g of citrulline malate or placebo acutely before exercise testing, separated by one week. The researchers ensured that participants' dietary intake remained similar during both conditions.
9 participants completed the study and there wasn't a statistically significant difference between conditions for the number of repetitions or perceived exertion during leg presses or hack squat fatigue tests. There also wasn't a statistically significant difference for creatine kinase, lactate, and muscle soreness. There also wasn't a statistically significant difference for testosterone to cortisol ratio.
