Daily Blueberry Consumption Improves Blood Pressure And Arterial Stiffness In Postmenopausal Women With Pre- And Stage 1-hypertension: A Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Clinical Trial

Notes for this study:
48 postmenopausal women with pre- or stage 1 hypertension were given placebo or 22 g (11 g twice daily) freeze-dried blueberry powder for 8 weeks. The powder had 4.69 mg/g anthocyanins and 8.45 mg/g phenolics. After 8 weeks, systolic and diastolic blood pressure dropped to an extent less than that of hypertensive medications. Brachial-ankle pulsewave velocity also dropped. Carotid-femoral pulsewave velocity remained unchanged.
