In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study, 20 healthy men were allocated to take either 1.75 g of maca hypocotyl powder for 12 weeks

Two participants had a low sperm count and were excluded from the trial, leaving 18 remaining. There were no statistically significant changes in sperm count or quality in the Maca group, though there were some small increases in motility, and sperm concentration, that weren't seen in the placebo group. Both groups saw similar reductions in luteinizing hormone, free t4 and follicle-stimulating hormone, which weren't statistically significant, no change in estradiol or testosterone, and the Maca group saw a greater reduction in thyroid-stimulating hormone, though this wasn't statistically significant.
